The Secret of Karma

JAIPUR SATSANG 26 PART 1

The world and the land in which we live are not truly ours. By “ours,” it means that the soul does not belong here; it is not a native of this place. The soul was brought here by Kal Maharaj after he worshipped the Supreme Being and obtained it. But once the soul came into this realm, it became lost. In this domain of Maya, it forgot its true place, its eternal home, and its Father. It became so completely absorbed in the false play of illusion that now it faces great difficulty in finding the way out.

When the Supreme Being saw that souls were crying out in suffering, He sent great Masters into this world. He revealed His secret to them and commissioned them to guide the souls back to their true home. Yet, what happened after we arrived here? The things we accepted and adopted in this world—none of them contain true reality. Why? Because they are created by Kal and Maya, designed only to mislead and confuse us.

When we are taught the path of Truth, it often does not appeal to us. And why is that? Because we only believe in what our senses can experience. If we cannot see something, we don’t believe it; if we cannot hear it, we reject it. But the path of Truth is not about seeing and hearing with physical senses.

In the first sacred verse, Kabir Sahib said:
“The Supreme Truth is beyond perception; our Satguru reveals that which cannot be seen.”
The Satguru grants us an experience that does not belong to this world. To see, understand, or test this gift is extremely difficult, yet the Masters give us the signs to recognize it.

Another sacred verse from Tulsi Sahib says:
“The law of karma is unique; it cannot be avoided. Karma rules the world—whatever one does, that is what one must taste.”
In this entire creation, karma holds absolute supremacy. Every being has brought their karmas with them, and the fruits of these karmas must be experienced. As long as karmas exist, the soul must return again and again in the cycle of birth and death.

The Masters alone possess the remedy that can cut the root of karma. Whoever receives this divine medicine becomes blessed and freed from the cycle of transmigration. There are three types of karma:

Prarabdh (Destined Karma): the karma of previous births that has already begun to bear fruit.
Kriyamana (Current Karma): the actions we perform in the present moment.
Sanchit (Accumulated Karma): the stored collection of karmas from countless past births whose fruits are yet to be experienced.

This is not our first birth, nor will it be our last. The outer form may change; the species may change. The scriptures describe 8.4 million life forms, divided into four categories—egg-born, womb-born, sweat-born, and earth-born. Until the soul passes through these forms and exhausts the results of its good deeds, it does not obtain a human birth.

The scriptures say:
“This human body is rare—after wandering through millions of births, you have received it. Do not waste it. Remember the Lord at every moment and earn devotion.”

And devotion can only be practiced through the Guru. One must receive the Shabd—the inner Sound—from the true Master. Only then does life find its purpose. To receive a human birth, and beyond that, to receive a true Guru and satsang—this is the highest fortune, the reward of great past karma.

Now, coming back to karma:
Prarabdh karma cannot be changed; its fruit must be borne. Kriyamana karma—the actions we perform now—are in our hands, and they shape our future. Sanchit karma is the vast storehouse accumulated from previous lives. Whatever fruits remain unexperienced continue to gather until the store becomes huge.

This is why people often say, “I have never done anything wrong. I have always helped others, done good deeds. Then why has injustice happened to me?”
It is because we are unaware of what karmas we performed in past lives. Our intellect is clouded by Maya; we cannot even understand the karmas we are doing right now. Under the influence of the mind, we often fall into confusion and commit wrong actions unknowingly.

Satsang removes this confusion. Without clearing inner delusion, no one can improve. When the Sanchit karmas come forward—like a debt that must be paid—we have no idea why events unfold the way they do. We simply declare ourselves innocent and question God’s justice.

Even Dhritarashtra was confused. He said to Lord Krishna, “I remember the past hundred births; I committed no sin. Then why did my hundred sons die before my eyes?”
Krishna granted him divine vision and revealed the karma of a birth prior to those hundred—he had swallowed a hundred young swans, and its fruit had come much later. This teaches that karma never leaves us.

Just as a businessman carries forward last year’s ledger into a new account book, the soul carries its karmic account into every new birth. God’s system does not change. Whatever Prarabdh or Sanchit karma one has accumulated, its fruit must come.

What is in our hands is the present moment—the karma we perform now. With right understanding, current karma can purify even the stored Sanchit karma and complete the Prarabdh karma. When awareness dawns, we naturally avoid actions that create new karmic bondage.
