Worldly Joy Fades, Divine Peace Remains

2nd Satsang, Canada by Param Sant Kanwar Saheb ji

Human life has been given to us by God, and we should never forget its true purpose even for a moment. But after coming into this world, the soul becomes lost in the maze of Maya and worldly attractions. These temporary pleasures appear so appealing that a person begins to believe that true happiness lies only in worldly things. However, such happiness lasts only for a short time. Eternal peace and joy can only be found at the feet of the Lord.

The saints always say that the true spiritual realm is filled with everlasting light, happiness, and peace. There is no hatred, jealousy, or conflict there. All souls live in complete harmony. Just as drops of water separated from the ocean fall in different places—some in mud, some on flowers, some on mountains—and take different forms, yet never find real peace away from the ocean, in the same way the soul, after becoming separated from the Supreme Lord, wanders through countless life forms and births. It becomes trapped in different conditions and bodies, but its true home is still the Divine from where it came.

When great Saints appear in this world, whoever comes under their grace and influence receives spiritual benefit. Places where saints, devotees, and great souls have lived become pure and peaceful because of their devotion and remembrance of God. That is why people feel peace at holy places and pilgrimage sites. Saints are considered the living form of God because divine qualities shine through them. Their words bring peace, their presence creates attraction toward goodness, and their company purifies the mind and heart.

True darshan does not mean merely looking at a saint and returning. It means listening carefully to their teachings and absorbing them into one’s heart. Kabir Sahib explained that spiritual understanding develops gradually. Just as a dirty cloth becomes clean only after repeated washing, the heart becomes pure through repeated remembrance, satsang, and contemplation.

A person may continue living in the world and performing all worldly duties, yet if the heart remains pure and connected to the Lord, the mind gradually becomes stable in divine remembrance.

People often ask saints to “take them” to God, but saints explain that no one can reach the destination without personal effort. The Guru shows the path, protects, guides, and warns against wrong actions, but a person must walk on the path through their own effort. God helps those who sincerely try. When a person gathers courage and moves forward with determination, divine strength begins to support them. The Guru is always with the disciple.

The power of God’s Name is immense. Saints have transformed sinners, removed suffering, and brought spiritual awakening through the strength of divine remembrance. Therefore, when attending satsang, one should listen carefully and later reflect upon those teachings again and again.

The Guru’s true protection lies in following His teachings. Whenever wrong thoughts arise, the Guru’s words should stop us from going astray. Those who live according to the Guru’s wisdom remain protected, while those who follow only their own desires become trapped in confusion.

The company of saints should be valued as much as possible. Worldly responsibilities will continue, but one should never forget God amidst them. Life constantly changes between happiness and sorrow, but by remembering the Lord, keeping pure thoughts, and following the Guru’s teachings, the soul gradually moves toward true peace and spiritual joy.
