True devotion means remaining steady even in times of pain and difficulty. It is easy to remember God when life is smooth, but the real test of faith comes when life becomes difficult. When trouble comes, a person may feel that God has been unfair. But we must understand that the will of the Lord is perfect. There is no mistake in His law.
Saints and true devotees also faced many hardships in this world, but they never lost their trust in God. They believed that the one protected by the Lord cannot truly be harmed by anyone. A true devotee accepts every situation as the will of the Lord. Even in suffering, he thinks, “There must be some hidden good for me in this too.”
A person should never doubt the ways of God. Our understanding is limited, but the Lord’s wisdom is unlimited. We often judge things as good or bad according to our own desires. When something does not happen the way we want, we begin to complain. But a wise person remains thankful in every situation and says, “O Lord, whatever You have done must be for my good.”
No one can change the law of the Lord. The results of past actions come at their proper time. We may have to face the fruits of our past karmas, but by doing good deeds today, we can improve our future. That is why the present moment is very precious. If a person keeps pure thoughts, remembers God, performs good actions, and stays away from wrongdoing, his path ahead can become blessed.
People often say that they do not have time for devotion. But we always find time for what we consider important. Just as medicine is needed to cure illness, food is needed to satisfy hunger, and water is needed to quench thirst, devotion is needed for peace of the soul and purification of karmas. There is no greater noble action than loving remembrance of God.
The best use of this life is to remember the Lord at every moment. One should repeat His Name with every breath, because this body is temporary. We do not know whether the next breath will come or not. This body is made of dust and will one day return to dust. Therefore, pride in body, wealth, or worldly possessions is meaningless.
We have come into this world only for a short time. Nothing was truly ours, and nothing will remain ours. We were born alone, and we will leave alone. Worldly relations, possessions, and pleasures do not go with us. Only our deeds and the remembrance of God accompany us. So a person should live in such a way that his present life improves and his spiritual path also becomes clear.
Devotion is not gained through caste, wealth, status, or outward appearance. In the court of God, what matters is purity of heart, true love, and noble conduct. Whoever remembers the Lord with sincerity becomes dear to Him. Devotion is such a treasure that it makes a person rich from within. The one who has the wealth of devotion possesses something greater than all the riches of the world.
A person suffers because he becomes trapped in worldly attachment. He wants to hold tightly to possessions, desires, and relationships. This attachment becomes his bondage. But if he gives up this attachment and turns his mind toward God, he can become free from within. True freedom does not come by holding on to the world; it comes by placing complete trust in the Lord.
The one who remembers the Lord purifies his actions, makes his life meaningful, and prepares the path ahead. In the end, such a soul reaches the Lord’s shelter and attains lasting peace, where there is no sorrow, no fear, and no cycle of birth and death.
