Canada Satsang 5, by Param Sant Hujur Kanwar Saheb Ji
Saints remember their Beloved every moment of the day. Whether speaking, walking, sitting, or working, their minds remained absorbed in the remembrance of God. True love for the Master creates an attraction that cannot be explained. A Saint’s presence fills the soul with peace, love, and strength, drawing it back repeatedly..
The lives of saints repeatedly show that devotion is not measured by outer sacrifice alone. One may give up many worldly things, but without love, devotion remains incomplete. True bhakti is born from sincere love and complete trust in the Guru. The path of spirituality is the path of becoming a Gurmukh—one who follows the Guru’s guidance without constantly judging it through personal logic and self-interest. Saints often test their disciples, not to trouble them, but to remove their weaknesses, burn away their karmas, and strengthen their faith.

A well-known example is Guru Ram Das Ji. Guru Amar Das Ji repeatedly instructed his disciples to build a platform and then tear it down. Many disciples became frustrated and left, believing the task was pointless. Only Ram Das Ji continued without complaint. When asked why he remained, he replied, “Whether the platform is built or destroyed does not matter to me. My duty is simply to obey the Guru’s command. ” It was this humility, faith, and love that made him worthy of becoming the next Guru.
We often claim that we have surrendered ourselves to God and the Guru, but when events go against our wishes, we begin to question their wisdom. Saints teach us that our understanding is limited, while the Divine sees far beyond what we can perceive. What appears difficult or unfair today may ultimately be for our spiritual benefit.

Saints do not reveal their deepest treasures to everyone immediately. They first look for sincerity, faith, and genuine longing. When they find a true seeker, they do not delay in bestowing grace and spiritual progress.
At the same time, spirituality does not require abandoning worldly responsibilities. Guru Nanak Dev Ji himself lived as a householder, worked honestly, traveled widely, and taught people to earn through honest labor, share with others, and treat all human beings as equal. He rejected caste discrimination and encouraged people to live a life of compassion and service.
When Guru Nanak Dev Ji appeared in the world, it was said that light spread everywhere. This does not refer to physical light but to the light of spiritual wisdom that dispelled ignorance and showed humanity the path of devotion. The teachings of the saints remain relevant in every age because they are not ordinary words. They are messages of love, truth, and spiritual awakening, given for the welfare and liberation of all souls.
