Satsang by Param Sant Kanwar Saheb Ji Maharaj, 29 June 2026
For Naam Bhakti, it is very important that a person has the right inner environment. This means that the mind and intellect should be free from conflict, tension and anxiety.
To be free from worries means that when sorrow, anxiety and restlessness leave a person’s life, he becomes peaceful. And a peaceful person naturally becomes fearless.
If a person is already disturbed or has brought some worry along with him, then whatever is spoken in Satsang will not enter his heart properly. His attention will remain stuck in his own problem. To receive the Guru’s words, the heart must be empty and calm. Only when the heart is free from inner noise can it truly absorb the teachings of the Guru..
If we understand what “Radha Swami” truly means, the Satsang becomes clear. “Radha” refers to the soul, and “Swami” refers to the Supreme Lord. The union of the soul with the Supreme Lord is the essence of devotion.
At present, however, the soul and the Supreme Lord are separated. Because of this separation, the soul is restless. The soul has entered the realm of Kaal. Just as a person who leaves his own country and goes to another country has to follow the laws of that land, in the same way, we are living in the realm of Kaal and Maya. This world is created by Maya. Here, Kaal has his rule, his laws and his control, and he wants every soul to live according to those rules.
But we do not truly belong to this land. By living here for so long, we have started believing that this world is our own. We have forgotten that this is not our real home. This is a foreign land for the soul. Our true home is that place where there is no sorrow, no anxiety, no jealousy and no hatred. There is only love, joy, peace, happiness and bliss. There, everyone is equal, and where everyone is equal, there can be no jealousy or hatred.
But Kaal and Maya have covered the eyes of the soul. They have placed a veil over its understanding and made it believe that this world is its true home. Whenever the soul tries to rise above this world, Kaal binds it with the cycle of birth and death. The soul dies, takes birth again, forms relationships, becomes attached to them, feels pain when separated from them and happiness when united with them.

But the soul has forgotten the real separation—the separation from the true Lord, from its Swami. When a person goes to a foreign country, he remembers his family every day. Earlier, people wrote letters. Today, they make phone calls. They ask about the well-being of their loved ones, share their own condition and feel the pain of distance. But after coming into this world, do you ever feel that same longing for the Lord? Do you remember the One from whom you have been separated?
This is why we must be grateful to the Satguru. The Satguru reminds us, teaches us and makes us understand that we should remember the place from where we have come. That place was full of happiness. There was no day or night, no birth or death, no rich or poor, no high or low, no disease, no pain and no suffering. These diseases and troubles belong to this world. Then why do we not remember our true home?
Your true country, your true home, is that divine place. To reach that home, you need the ticket of Naam. The Satguru gives Naam because only through Naam can the soul be uplifted. There is no other path. But the one who has received the ticket of Naam should not simply keep it aside. He must follow the discipline and principles of Naam. He must have self-control, patience and faith. He must walk according to the Guru’s instructions. If he keeps remembering and repeating the Guru’s teachings, his journey towards the destination will continue.
All the worldly things, comforts and possessions that you have collected will be left behind here. You have no permanent claim over them. While living here, you may think they are yours, but this feeling of “I” and “mine” is itself the blindfold over your eyes. These things are not truly ours. Yes, while we are in this world, we may use them because they are needed. But when the time comes to leave, nothing can be taken along.
Only one thing can go with you—Naam Bhakti. In the court of the Satguru, you will receive the gift of Naam Bhakti, nothing else. But before that, the Guru first tells a person to improve his life. To improve life, one must keep good company. Food and conduct must be pure. Actions must be noble. Whatever work you do, you must stay away from deceit, fraud and dishonesty.
Today, the world has become such that people want to live through cheating, cunning and selfishness. Brother is ready to harm brother. Greed and self-interest have become the highest priority. Friendships are based on selfish motives. Even relationships between Guru and disciple, father and son, brother and sister, and husband and wife have become filled with personal interest. Daily quarrels, court cases and disputes are proof of this.

Why has this happened? Because character has declined, values have disappeared and love has weakened. Greed and selfishness have taken over. A person only wants to fulfil his own interest. He does not care what happens to others.
If you truly want to walk on the path of devotion, then first bring love and compassion into your heart. The third quality is Sewa. When these three qualities—love, compassion and Sewa—enter a person’s heart, then the spiritual progress that may take six years can happen in six months.
Food should also be pure. If food is pure and clean, thoughts will also become pure. Those who eat meat, fish and eggs—how will compassion arise in their hearts? They do not feel the pain of other living beings. Falsehood, deceit, theft and criticism enter a person’s heart when his food and habits become impure and cruel.
Therefore, pure thoughts, peace in the home, respect for elders, sweet speech and loving behaviour are necessary even before Naam Simran.
So first make your life good. Build character. Make your life pure and disciplined. Respect your elders. Give love to children and teach them love. Protect them from bad company. Fill their hearts with good values and pure thoughts.
When negative habits and wrong influences spread in society, mental disturbance naturally increases. The mind remains filled with those same worldly worries. And when the mind is full of worldly problems, how can a person do Bhakti? He simply cannot. This is why many people come to Satsang but do not receive its true benefit. They come physically, but their minds remain occupied with problems.

When you go to the Guru, remember that the Guru is also a healer, a guide, a wise adviser, a protector and like a mother and father. The Guru helps in every way. If you are ill, he will guide you towards the right advice, doctor and medicine. If your time is difficult, he will tell you to be patient and wait, because better days will come and your work will improve.
When a person shares his pain with the Guru, he receives peace. The burden of the mind becomes lighter. That is why the Guru is needed
A true Guru also shows the way in the real problems of life. A person who needs food must have work and a livelihood. Therefore, work honestly. No work is small or big. To feed yourself, do any honest work. There is no shame in working. If you want to feel shame, feel shame for bad habits and wrong actions.
There is no shame in good work. If you earn through your own hard work and eat from that earning, it is like nectar for you. Whether you do labour or any other honest work, the earning of your own hands is pure and blessed. But money earned through cheating, fraud, deceit and dishonesty is poison. Slowly, it destroys a person.
You may feel happy in your mind that you have collected this or achieved that. But in reality, you have not gained anything. You have purchased your own downfall. Such wealth takes you away from devotion and away from God. Your thoughts become impure, your family and children begin to suffer, because what they are being fed, clothed with and supported by has come through wrong means.
Therefore, earn through pure and honest effort. Eat what you earn with your own hands. When your earning is honest, your thoughts will become pure and noble. Then, gradually, everything in life will begin to improve on its own.
